Private Detective Agency Berlin | Berlin Private Detectives

Kurtz Detective Agency Berlin sees itself not only as a support for companies through the lawful conduct of corporate investigations, but also as an ally for private individuals who require one or more detectives to protect their legitimate interests. With around 3.9 million inhabitants, the demand in the capital is naturally particularly high. In Berlin, problems that are uncommon for individuals, but routine for an experienced private detective, occur more concentrated than anywhere else in Germany: individuals obligated to pay maintenance evade their responsibilities. Maintenance recipients do not declare their full income or live secretly in a marital-like relationship. Debtors disappear. Potential heirs are unknown. Cases of defamation, insult, coercion, extortion, stalking or other harassment occur.

For the individual, a tragedy; for the experienced investigator, daily work. You are not alone with your problems – the private detectives of Kurtz Detective Agency Berlin are here to help: +49 30 5557 8641-0.

Private Investigations – An Old and Established Profession

It is hardly possible to say with certainty when the first self-proclaimed detective operated in Berlin or when the first official detective agency was founded in today’s federal capital. The origins of the detective profession in Berlin, however, can be traced with high certainty to the mid-19th century, and from around 1880 the first detective agency in Berlin is documented, founded by retired Lieutenant Caspary-Roth Roffi. He thus competed with other companies founded around the same time, such as the Verein Barzahlung, which under the name Creditreform remains a market leader in credit reporting to this day. This example illustrates the establishment and credibility of the detective profession in German society. Information has always been a valuable asset – today perhaps even more than in the early days of detectives in Berlin. The clientele of detective agencies and the necessity for investigative services are therefore unlikely to disappear in the foreseeable future under predictable social developments.

German detectives stand in the tradition of collectives such as the London Bow Street Runners, who – at that time still semi-official – are regarded as the first detectives in history, the famous American detective organisation of Allan Pinkerton, or individual pioneers like the ingenious and notorious French criminologist Vidocq. Evidence provided by detectives as neutral observers is recognised in court, and private investigators enjoy a high reputation among experts. However, unrealistic TV productions, the misconduct of individual colleagues leading to media scandals, and the incorrect conflation of the term “detective agency” with security services (bodyguards, bouncers etc.) have unfortunately contributed to a partially negative public perception of the profession. Most genuine detective agencies, in the original sense of investigative services, that establish themselves in the market are as reputable today as they were in the past.
